Optical data transmission with 100 Mbit/s!
Within the DaViD project, researchers at the Communication Technology Institute have succeeded for the first time in transmitting data optically from a display to a camera at a data rate of 100 Mbit/s while simultaneously displaying a video. With this technology, data are dynamically superimposed in the form of a slight modulation of the color information of the video and thus invisible to the viewer, but can be recovered from video recordings of the display. The result impressively demonstrates the possibilities of this novel technology using professional cameras. With smartphones as receiver systems, 11 Mbit/s have already been achieved in the laboratory for hand-held recordings.
